After capturing Fritha and Kevin’s maternity session, I was eager to meet little Fia at this newborn session! Just as her parents are easy to be around, so, too, was this little baby. Throughout our time together she barely let out a peep, just happy and content to be in her parents’ arms. Fia seemed perfectly comfortable in the arms of her mom and dad. We spent the first part of their newborn session right in their Boston apartment, documenting those quiet early moments as a growing family — cuddles in bed, tiny fingers, and lots of course lots of kisses from Kevin and Fritha’s handsome pup, Gatsby. As Fia’s new “big brother,” Gatsby was always keeping a close watch on everybody.
After some time at home, we headed to the beach near their apartment. I love when a family session can incorporate the places that are actually part of their everyday life. Fritha and Kevin took turns holding Fia, walking along the shore, and dreaming up the memories they’d make together by the water as Fia grows up.
One reason I love newborn sessions so much is because, while the baby is brand new to the world, the parents are brand new to the baby. Everyone a little stunned by their circumstances and also glowing with love for each other. It’s a short, special time in life and .These are the photographs that make me love newborn sessions: not just pictures of a tiny baby, but a record of what life looked like when Fia was brand new — her parents, her “big brother,” their home, and the neighborhood where they were beginning this next chapter together.
