A castle? On an island? Driveable from Boston? Yes, yes, and yes! I was so thrilled to photograph Katherine and Deanna at Castle Island to celebrate their engagement.
On a chilly evening, we set out to explore the park’s beautiful twenty-two acres, wandering the trails and taking in the views. The historic granite fort and Boston Harbor were stunning backdrops. Stay tuned for the full moonrise we got at the end!
Katherine and Deanna’s history follows the path of the “modern classic” love story: they met online. After a first date that went much longer than planned, they’ve been inseparable since. Spending an evening with them, it was easy to see why - these two just enjoy being around each other SO MUCH. During our session, they were constantly cracking each other up (Katherine has a delightfully wry sense of humor), and I hardly saw them let go of each other.
Beyond the humor and obvious affection, they have quite a bit in common. Both are teachers, and each has a brother they're incredibly close with. Family is at the center of Katherine and Deanna’s lives, so getting married means more to them than simply building a household together. It means bringing the people they love into one big, extended family of their own.
Castle Island was a particularly fitting place for their session, too. With summers off from teaching, Katherine and Deanna spend plenty of time on Cape Cod with their loved ones. The ocean has become part of their shared story, and Castle Island gave us a way to capture that same coastal feeling without making the drive down the Cape. We got to spend an evening by the water, just as they so often do on vacation, with the added bonus of the Boston skyline in the distance.
I always love when a couple chooses a location that reflects something about their life together. The setting becomes more than just a pretty backdrop; it becomes part of their story.
And as if the harbor views weren't enough, we got one last surprise before the evening was over: a full moon rising over the water. It was an absolutely beautiful way to end our time together.
Katherine and Deanna, thank you for choosing me to capture this exciting season of your lives. I know your adventures ahead will be filled with just as much laughter, affection, and family time.
