Siti and Shrey met through mutual friends, with a shared love of Taylor Swift helping spark the connection. Long distance has been part of their relationship from the very beginning — Shrey was in college in Texas, while Siti was in the Midwest. At the time of this shoot, they were doing another version of it: Shrey recently moved to Boston for work, while Siti finished up her degree in the Midwest.
So when they were in Boston together celebrating their anniversary, they wanted to take the opportunity to document this chapter of their relationship with a photoshoot.
They knew they wanted to be outside and surrounded by nature, and when I learned this I was impressed. It can be ambitious to be outdoors for a January photoshoot in Boston. Luckily, the Arnold Arboretum is lovely in every season and Shrey and Siti were ready to brave the chilly air!
We spent most of the session in the evergreens where the green foliage gave us some much-needed color in the middle of winter. The evergreens stood out beautifully against the bare branches and muted winter landscape, creating a setting that felt quiet and distinctly January without looking completely devoid of color.
Siti and Shrey laughed together, cuddled up, walked through the trees, and enjoyed having some time together. After spending so much of their relationship navigating different cities, they seem to have gotten very good at making the most of the time they do have together.
I love photographing couples during these quieter chapters of life — not just engagements and weddings, but the everyday milestones and seasons that make up a relationship. An anniversary is a wonderful reason to celebrate where you've been and where you are now, wherever “now” happens to be.
